Extreme RPMI 1640 (Extreme Roswell Park Memorial Institute) 1640 Medium is a uniquely optimized medium based on RPMI 1640, with L-Glutamine, Sodium bicarbonate, Insulin & Sodium selenite, 1X, STERILE.
RPMI 1640 Medium is a modification of McCoy′s 5A Medium. It was formulated to culture human leukemic cells in suspension and as a monolayer. Roswell Park Memorial Institute (RPMI) 1640 Medium has since been shown to support a wide variety of of mammalian cells, including HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC12, PBMC, astrocytes, and carcinomas. It has also been widely used in fusion protocols and in the growth of hybrid cells.
Hormones are added to protects the cells from oxidative damage by reducing the production of free radical and inhibits lipid peroxidation. The supplement of hormones allows to reduce or eliminate the FBS used during cell culture.
