Product Description:
Luria Agar (Miller’s LB Agar) is used for bacterial culture, especially for the cultivation and maintenance of Escherichia coli in molecular biology experiments. It is a premixed powder of LB broth agar medium, pre-formulated with enzymatic digest of casein (tryptone), yeast extract, high-purity agar and sodium chloride. Each bottle contains 125 g tryptone, 62.5 g yeast extract, 125 g sodium chloride and 187.5 g agar. Tryptone and yeast extract serve as basal nutrients, supplying nitrogen sources, carbon sources, amino acids, peptides, B-complex vitamins, minerals and other growth factors required for bacterial growth. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic equilibrium of the medium system, while agar acts as the solidifying agent. This medium is widely applied for E. coli culture in fermentation engineering, genetic engineering and molecular biology research.
