G-418, also known as G-418 sulfate, is used for the selection and maintenance of eukaryotic cells. It is an antibiotic that inhibits polypeptide synthesis and protein elongation in eukaryotic cells. Resistance to G-418 is conferred by a gene that is expressed in eukaryotic cells.
Usage Statement:
This product is intended solely for laboratory research use. It is not intended for human clinical, diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
Safety Considerations:
G-418 is a dangerous product. Refer to safety data sheet for handling instructions.
Selection Conditions for Animal Cells:
Normal working concentration for G-418 is 400 μg/mL but optimal concentration needs to be determined for your cell lines. It is recommended to first try several concentrations between 100 μg/mL and 1 mg/mL of G-418. The cell death should happen rapidly allowing selection of transfected cells .
